On February 22nd, 2025, hearts and minds came together in one powerful space as we held a critical and compassionate conversation around the support of sexual assault survivors and the systems that often fail them.
Guided by host Dr. Stephanie Okolo, the session featured deeply insightful voices:
🔹 Aisha Badum, clinical psychologist, spoke on trauma-informed care and how trust is rebuilt slowly, through safety, empathy, and non-judgment.
🔹 Chaplain Don Fulton offered a spiritual lens, emphasizing the need for sacred, shame-free spaces where survivors can reclaim agency and dignity.
🔹 Dr. Margaret Akogun tackled the emotional and physical complexities of recovery, and how silence—especially from institutions—can retraumatize.
🔹 Prof. Cornelius Nkwam interrogated the systemic negligence within healthcare, law enforcement, and policy, and called for urgent structural accountability.
“Supporting survivors goes beyond belief—it requires action, reform, and a community that listens,” one panelist reminded us.
