Abstract
As a teacher in Nigeria, I have witnessed firsthand how much our students struggle with emotional and behavioral issues, which in turn affect their academic performance. We often focus heavily on meeting educational standards, covering the curriculum, and preparing students for exams. However, one thing is clear: academic success is more than intelligence or hard work. Our students are facing stress, anxiety, and emotional turmoil, which disrupts their ability to learn. Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (CBIs) should be in every Nigerian classroom. CBIs help students manage stress, regulate emotions, and improve their academic performance. They work on a simple idea: how we think influences how we feel and act. For many Nigerian students, negative thoughts and feelings—about school, their abilities, or life circumstances—hold them back. I have seen how CBIs can transform these challenges, allowing students to focus better, feel more confident, and achieve more.
