Erectile Dysfunction in Nigerian Men: Addressing the Hidden Battle

Abstract

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a common yet often overlooked health issue among Nigerian men. Cultural stigmas, compounded by limitations in the healthcare system, exacerbate the problem, leaving many men untreated. This review explores the epidemiology, underlying causes, and the broader impact of ED while proposing multifaceted interventions to reduce its prevalence and improve outcomes. The article emphasizes the need for integrated educational, healthcare, and community support initiatives by analyzing biomedical and socio-cultural factors. These measures aim to improve awareness, enhance healthcare access, and reduce the stigma associated with ED in Nigeria. Ultimately, a comprehensive strategy is required to mitigate the negative impact ED has on men’s quality of life and mental well-being.
