Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): From Trauma to Recovery
Date: September 12, 2025
Facilitator: Reverend Father Joseph Bature Fidelis
Format: Mental Health Training
The Initiative for Cognitive Therapies and Mental Health (ICTMH) hosted a mental health training titled Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): From Trauma to Recovery, facilitated by Reverend Father Joseph Bature Fidelis. The session explored the psychological and emotional impact of traumatic experiences and how they can affect an individual’s thoughts, feelings, behaviour, relationships, and overall quality of life.
The training examined common signs and symptoms of PTSD, including intrusive memories, nightmares, heightened alertness, emotional distress, avoidance of trauma-related reminders, and difficulties feeling safe or connected to others. Participants gained insights into how traumatic experiences can affect people differently and why some individuals may struggle long after the traumatic event has passed.
The session also highlighted the importance of early recognition, compassionate support, and appropriate professional intervention in the recovery process. Participants explored the value of healthy coping strategies, supportive relationships, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches in helping trauma survivors process their experiences and gradually regain a sense of safety and control.
Ultimately, the training emphasized that trauma does not have to define a person’s future. With appropriate care, understanding, and support, recovery is possible, and individuals living with PTSD can take meaningful steps towards healing, resilience, and improved mental well-being.
