Understanding Attachments: The Doorway to Adult Healing (Part 2)
Date: August 29, 2025
Facilitator: Dr. David Thompson
Format: Mental Health Training
The Initiative for Cognitive Therapies and Mental Health (ICTMH) continued its mental health series with Understanding Attachments: The Doorway to Adult Healing (Part 2), facilitated by Dr. David Thompson. Building on the foundational concepts of attachment explored in Part 1, the session examined how early childhood experiences and relationship patterns can influence adult emotional well-being, intimacy, trust, and interpersonal connections.
The training explored how insecure attachment patterns may contribute to fear of abandonment, emotional withdrawal, difficulty trusting others, and recurring relationship conflicts. Participants gained insights into identifying their attachment patterns, understanding emotional triggers, and recognizing how past experiences may shape their responses to present relationships.
The session emphasized that attachment patterns are not necessarily permanent and that healing is possible through self-awareness, healthy communication, emotional regulation, supportive relationships, and professional therapeutic guidance where needed. Ultimately, participants were encouraged to embrace personal growth, break unhealthy relational cycles, and develop more secure and fulfilling connections with others.
